ABOUT

THOMAZ REGATOS

Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, I am an internationally recognized architect and the founder of Thomaz Regatos Design, a multidisciplinary studio dedicated to creating transformative spaces through architecture, interiors, product design, and cultural projects. I hold a Master’s degree in Theory & Practice of Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia ETSAB in Barcelona and an MBA from UNA University.

As the co-founder and former partner of Rizoma Arquitetura, I played a key role in the firm’s growth, leading the design of over ten iconic, site-specific art galleries at the renowned INHOTIM Contemporary Art Museum. These collaborations included partnerships with celebrated artists such as Anish Kapoor, Julio Le Parc, Ingo Maurer, Ernesto Neto, and Tunga. My contributions also extended to serving on the architecture board of INHOTIM, further enriching its cultural and architectural legacy.

My architectural innovations have been showcased globally at prestigious venues, including the Carnegie Museum, Yale University, Deutsches Architektur Museum, the Venice Biennale, and La Bienal de Arquitectura Latinoamericana BAL. My work has been featured in leading publications such as the Financial Times, Taschen, and WallPaper and is part of the collections at the Deutsches Architektur Museum and the Heinz Architectural Center at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. I have received numerous accolades, including recognition as a leading young architect in Brazil by A'A' L'architecture Aujourd'hui and a nomination for the Mies Crown Hall of Americas Prize, where I continue to contribute as a nominating committee member.

Currently based in Los Angeles, I have brought my expertise to a diverse array of projects. As a Senior Project Manager at Relativity Architects, I successfully oversaw more than 30 projects spanning affordable housing, film studios, tech offices, and high-end residential developments. At Studio PCH, I elevated luxury design as Studio Director and Senior Designer, contributing to landmark projects such as Nobu Sydney, Nobu Scottsdale, Malibu Golf Club Houses, Ariel Sands Luxury Development in Bermuda, and an ultra-luxury residence in Bora Bora. Additionally, I served as the design director and private architect for a prominent contemporary artist, designing a 12-building art compound in Snowmass, Colorado.

I am honored to have been selected to design the Louisiana Music Museum, a project developed in partnership with Moliere Chappuis Architects and Art Processors. This cultural landmark celebrates Louisiana’s rich and multifaceted musical heritage, seamlessly integrating architecture, visual art, and music to create a profoundly immersive experience.

As an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Woodbury University, I guide the next generation of architects while continuing to push the boundaries of design, ensuring that each project creates lasting cultural and architectural impact.
